It is difficult for the wider community to appreciate the true significance of the Italian settlement at New Italy as little fabric from the days when the settlement was at its peak remain.
To understand and in fact find early fabric we will still need tourist guides perhaps archaeologists, to draw attention to the minute in the landscape. One needs to stand in the bush, feel the heat and humidity, be biten by midges or tormented by flies to really appreciate the conditions underwhich the Italian settlers worked and established themselves. Experience is everthing.
The development of this virtual museum is one way to highlight the importance of the site.
Another is to expand the ” Your Stories ” pages to include newspaper articles on the settlers and their families.
We are keen to receive any photographs or stories that you would like published or included in our archives. Please send material to Contact us.
